What can Concord's MCP Server do?

The Concord MCP Server allows you to connect an external AI assistant, such as ChatGPT or Claude, to your Concord workspace. With this connection, you can securely ask questions about your contracts, search your documents, and generate reports using natural language. This feature is available only to customers on a Horizon-enabled Concord plan.

What Is the MCP Server?

The Multi-Context Processing (MCP) Server is a secure integration layer that lets approved AI assistants interact directly with Concord. Instead of relying only on your prompts, the AI assistant can use permission-aware tools provided by the MCP Server to search your documents and generate insights. This enables faster review, easier access to information, and more powerful reporting directly from your existing contracts.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Before you can use the Concord MCP Server, you need:

  • An active Concord account on a Horizon-enabled plan
  • An external AI assistant account (ChatGPT Team/Enterprise or Claude for Work/Team recommended)
  • Admin access to your AI assistant platform (for initial setup)

Important: If you do not have a Horizon-enabled plan and would like to enable MCP functionality, please contact your Concord Customer Success Manager or reach out to support@concord.app.

Setting Up the Connection

An admin in your ChatGPT or Claude account must set up the initial connection to the Concord MCP Server. Once the connection is established, any user with a Concord seat can use the MCP Server through their AI assistant.

What You Can Do With the Concord MCP Server

The MCP Server includes three initial tools, with more being added over time:

1. Search Across Concord Use natural language to search your entire Concord workspace for contracts or documents. The AI assistant retrieves only the information you are already authorized to access.

2. Search Within Specific Documents After locating a document, the AI assistant can search inside it—such as clauses, headers, tables, or metadata—so you can quickly find the details you need.

3. Generate Reports in Concord You can ask the AI assistant to create a report using your Concord data.

Important: Reports are created directly inside Concord, not inside ChatGPT or Claude. You must log in to Concord and navigate to the Reports tab to view, edit, or share the report. ChatGPT or Claude can create their own tables in their interface, but those may not be saved in Concord.

Permissions and Access

How Permissions Work

Your permissions within Concord extend to the MCP Server. If you have limited permissions in Concord, you will not be able to access or perform actions through the MCP Server that you couldn't already do within Concord itself.

Who Can Use the MCP Server

Once the MCP Server is enabled in your company's Concord account and connected in your ChatGPT or Claude instance, any user with a Concord seat can connect and use it. There are no separate MCP-specific permissions.

Admin Requirement

An admin in your ChatGPT or Claude account must set up the initial connection before individual users can begin using the MCP Server.

Security, Privacy, and Compliance

Concord applies the same security model to MCP that it applies everywhere in the platform:

  • Your AI assistant can only access documents and data you already have permission to see.
  • No Concord data is retained or stored outside your workspace.
  • Concord maintains a strict zero-retention policy: the Concord MCP Server does not store user data or AI interactions.

Understanding Third-Party AI Provider Policies

When you connect to Concord through ChatGPT, Claude, or another LLM provider, your contract data may be processed by that provider. If your AI account does not have an equivalent zero-retention or no-training policy (for example, if you are not using ChatGPT Team/Enterprise or Claude for Work/Team), your data may be used for training or operational improvement by that provider.

Before enabling MCP access:

  • Confirm that your external AI account meets your organization's security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • Work with your internal IT or security team if you are unsure.
  • Concord does not control or manage how third-party AI platforms use or retain your data.

Why Does This Matter?

The Concord MCP Server transforms how you interact with your contract data by:

  • Speeding up contract review: Ask questions in natural language instead of manually searching through documents.
  • Improving accessibility: Find specific clauses, terms, or data without navigating complex folder structures.
  • Enabling faster insights: Generate reports directly from your contract data without exporting or switching platforms.
  • Maintaining security: Access only the data you're already authorized to see, with no external storage of your information.

By connecting your AI assistant to Concord, you can leverage powerful AI capabilities while maintaining the security and permissions structure you've already established.
